Second Officer Assigned!

Mission: http://ds12.16thfleet.com/index.php/sim/missions/id/3
Location: Security Office, DS12

After meeting with Captain Xerix, Blake had quickly headed back to his quarters for a quick change of uniform and to add the extra black pip to his collar before he headed to the stations security office to speak with Lieutenant Menun.

He entered the security office and noticed the Orion sat behind his desk working diligently. He wondered if he should start the conversation with his being promoted to stations first officer but decided against it as it might be seen as bragging. Something he wanted to avoid.

"Afternoon, Lieutenant." He said by way of starting the conversation.

J'remar looked up from his computer console, nodding to Ellis. "Good afternoon Lieuten..." he paused, noticing the extra pip that he was sure hadn't been there the last time he'd seen Blake Ellis. "Or should I say, Lieutenant Commander?" He corrected. "I assume Captain Xerix promoted you to fill the void recently left by Commander Swift's reassignment?"

Ellis straightened out his new red uniform proudly. "She did, much to my surprise, with me." He said with an ackward smile. "Anyway, I come here with orders. Captain Xerix has seen fit to promote you to Deep Space Twelve's second officer. Congratulations, Lieutenant."

J'remar blinked, tilting his head. "Did I understand you correctly sir? The captain wants ME as her second officer?" He was very much surprised by this. He hadn't expected to receive such a position for years to come.

"That's correct, Lieutenant. You have demonstrated the necessary qualities that are required of a second officer, apparently." Ellis replied. "Seems we'll be learning the command ropes together."

J'remar thought for a moment, still very taken aback at this sudden career shift. After a moment, he stood up, saluting Ellis. "It will be an honor sir."

Blake offered the Lieutenant his hand. "It'll be a pleasure to be working more closely with you." He said with a smile.

The Orion took Ellis's hand and shook it for the correct professional amount of time, before dropping his arm and clasping his hands behind his back. "Is there anything the Captain requires of me immediately after I assume this new position?"

"At the moment no, but I'm sure she'll call when were needed." Blake said with a smile.

"I still do not understand why Captain Xerix chose me," J'remar said. "I've been assigned to the Falchion for such a short amount of time, and am just a simple Lieutenant. There are several lieutenant commanders that would make good second officers besides myself."

"If I'm.honest, I thought the same when I she promoted me to first officer." Blake said honestly. "I'm a mere engineer, however, I'm going to take this opportunity and do my best. How often do you get a chance for Command experience?"

J'remar shrugged. "I've personally led dozens of away missions, assumed command of the bridge of a previous starship I was assigned to at least twice, but that's about all."

"I've only lead engineering departments. Engineers don't generally get a call to rush to the bridge and take command very often. We're generally trying to keep the ship together." He said with a smirk.

J'remar nodded, letting a very small smirk escape his frowning facade. "Well, we all have a part to play. Where engineers prevent the ship from flying apart, we in security keep the ship safe in other measures." He thought for a moment. "I do find it unusual that Captain Xerix decided to promote an engineer of all people, no offense sir."

"If I'm honest with you, I have no idea. This is really out of my comfort zone." Ellis replied.

"That's part of the job," J'remar said, smirking very slightly. "I was uncomfortable being made Chief of Security aboard the Falchion for the first few weeks, but then I realized that I could help more people from a position of authority than being a follower of that authority. I'm sure we're both going to make fine examples for the crew sir."

"Chief engineer I can cope with. First officer, I'm sure I'll grow into the position but it's a big jump." The Commander replied.

The Orion shrugged. "I'm sure you'll be fine, sir."

"Here's hoping." Ellis said with a smile. "Anyway, I've taken enough of your time, I'll leave you in peace."

J'remar nodded his head, sitting back down at his security office desk. "Thank you sir."
